Issue #33

A weekly note from the studio

Oh hello! So glad you are joining me in this week's newsletter.

This week I am celebrating my 40th birthday!

A decade shift always makes you stop and reflect and I am proud to say: I’m building a life that feels true, layer by layer, brushstroke by brushstroke.

And I feel happy. I can't wait to get up in the morning and build this beautiful and meaningful creative business. And I feel so honoured to share my progress and processes with you.

Last week has also been a week of training, learning, and courage.

Not the loud, dramatic kind. The quiet courage that shows up in the studio when the page is blank and your heart is full.

  • Courage to confront the blank page
  • Courage to create something unique
  • Courage to pitch your work

These small acts of bravery are the real scaffolding of a creative business. They’re the invisible work behind every pattern, every product, every opportunity.

The last few months, I have been using PatternPAL Pro.

I can truly recommend PatternPAL Pro to save time and frustration.

PatternPAL Pro (developed by Amanda Grace Design) is a browser-based "Print Approval Lab" built specifically for surface pattern designers and textile artists to test, validate, scale and export seamless repeat patterns. You can also use this software to create instant product mockups and scale your designs for a variety of social media posts/ reels and pins.

If you're creating patterns regularly and you want to work smarter. If you want to reclaim those hours you're currently spending on manual exports and quality-check guesswork, PatternPal Pro was built for you.

7 Key Design Considerations for Textiles

In this week’s blog, I’m sharing the seven design considerations I rely on when creating textiles for interiors and products. These principles help ensure every pattern not only looks beautiful but performs well in real spaces. If you work with textiles, or simply want to understand the design process more deeply, this post offers a clear, practical overview you can use during briefing, sampling, and final artwork reviews.

Please hit reply and share your story, your journey and your business. I would love to get to know you.

In creativity and community,

Nelléne

Layer by Layer Issue #35 A weekly note from the studio Oh hello! Spring holidays always shift the rhythm of the house. The kids are home, the days feel longer, and the air carries that unmistakable early‑spring chill. We’ve been spending more time outdoors doing beach walks and finding little gems. My phone’s gallery is overflowing with flowers. Everywhere I look: colour, petals, new growth. Nature is putting on a show, and I’m happily documenting every moment. At home, my orchid collection...

Representing Nelléne's Design Studio A Hall Full of Colour, Conversation & Creative Joy Sunday, 20 September, I took part in my first community art market hosted by the Bays Art Collective. Our community hall was almost too small to contain all the colour, texture, and creative energy that poured into it. We spent the day talking with visitors, fellow artists, and curious...
